Absentee Ballot Signup and Early Voting

Voting by absentee ballot and voting early in person are safe and effective ways to cast your vote. These methods allow you to skip the long lines on election day and avoid any roadblocks that could prevent you from making it to your voting precinct on time.

Note: If you do not have a Virginia Driver’s License, you must go to your county registrar and complete a physical application. To find your county’s general registrar’s office, please click HERE

Begin by clicking the link HERE. This will bring you to the Virginia Department of Elections website.

Input your voter information to confirm your registration and click ‘Submit’

The next page is where you can see your status, precinct, and polling place.

At the top of the page, you’ll see a checkbox. Check ‘I want to apply to vote absentee by mail’ and then click ‘Continue’.

You will then be prompted to input your Virginia Driver’s License ID number, date of birth, and social security number.

6.

Once completed, please click ‘Next’ and input the required information to register for your absentee ballot.

Receiving and Casting Your Absentee Ballot

1.

Absentee ballots will be mailed 45 days before election day and arrive in your mailbox.

2.

You will need to fill out your ballot and return it in one of three ways:

  1. By Mail- Your ballot must be postmarked on or before election day and received by your general registrar’s office by noon on the third day following the election.
  2. In Person- You must return your ballot to your local general registrar’s office by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.
  3. Dropbox or Satellite Location- You may also return your absentee ballot to a drop-off or satellite location.

Voting Early In-Person

Early in-person voting will begin on September 20th and end on November 3rd.
During the early voting window, you can vote at your local registrar’s office or a designated satellite voting location.

Note: When at the registrar’s office or satellite voting location, provide your name and address and present an acceptable form of identification or sign an ID Confirmation Statement. Failure to provide acceptable identification will necessitate the signing of an ID Confirmation Statement, or alternatively, a provisional ballot will be offered to you. You have until noon the following Friday to complete the ID Confirmation Statement.
